Poustinia invites artists who are willing to contribute and
enhance the park's collection of artworks.
The art created by the artist should be in cohesion with the
ethos of the Park, which is about allowing the natural environment
to exist with as little interference as possible.
The idea that is being promoted is firstly an art form that is in harmony with the cultural and natural environment of the site; secondly an interactive art form, in which the artist and nature work together.
The art pieces should be either Sited Sculptures or Land Art.
Sited Sculptures are 3 dimensional objects that are carefully situated in their surrounding and are determined by their mass, volume, surface, manifestation of the organization of space both internal and external. Sited Sculptures should be sensitive to their surroundings. Materials recommended are: stones, wood, living trees, seedlings, concrete, plastics from dump site and metals or combination of these.
Land art is the sculptural manipulation of the environment itself. Land art is about the landscape and is determined by scale, human and natural vistas, character and topography of the surrounding. It should reveal the changing character that a work assumes in different conditions- diurnal or nocturnal, light and summer haze. Materials recommended are those found at hand. Machinery can involve equipment such as bulldozers and excavators to move soil or rocks.
RESOURCES:
The artist should seek through sponsors his own financing for traveling to and in Belize, materials for the sculpture and or equipment, food and personal expenses.
Poustinia Earth Art Park provides the following: most of the available on site raw material.
Hand tools such as shovel, post hole diggers, pickaxes etc. If the art-work requires extensive movement of soil and or movement of boulders, Poustinia assists in contacting heavy duty equipment rentals and material suppliers and arranges for deliverance of these to the site. Specialized tools such as drills, chisels and others should be provided by the artist.
Free lodging in the park grounds up to a period of three weeks after which there will be a fee for boarding. The cabins are fully equipped with kitchen and running water. There is no electricity at the park except for a standby generator.
A worker can be made available to assist with the works. If more than one worker is needed then the artists will be responsible for the others.
Poustinia also assists artists in obtaining duty free importation of materials necessary for the art works, freight and 8% sales tax will be the responsibility of the artists The artist should provide the invoice of the product and or material to be imported.
Poustinia will assist in removing the imported goods from customs (this usually takes a week). All expenses incurred by Poustinia in the process such as freight from Belize City (the port of arrival) to Poustinia and brokers fees will be the responsibility of the artist.
A letter of invitation is extended to artists who have expressed an interest in working at the Park. The motive behind a letter of invitation is to assist artists in procuring visas and securing grants.
Once the project is completed Poustinia will issue a press release in the local newspapers, copies of which will be sent to the artist. The project will be exhibited in Poustinia's website.
